"There’s something one should expect not only of a watch but also of oneself: to never stand still" Walter Lange

  • The perpetual calendar in our LANGE 1 PERPETUAL CALENDAR in platinum is made in our own unique way.

In 2001, with the LANGEMATIK PERPETUAL our development team overcame the challenge of designing a perpetual calendar mechanism that could accurately account for the varying durations of months as well as leap years. In addition, to maintain the signature design of the LANGE 1 watch family, we took a completely new approach and developed a peripheral month ring that advances instantly at the end of each month. This innovative mechanism was first featured in the LANGE 1 TOURBILLON PERPETUAL CALENDAR, launched in 2012.

  • Like our new LANGE 1 PERPETUAL CALENDAR, the 1815 ANNUAL CALENDAR in white gold is centred exclusively on its eponymous complication.

The LANGE 1 PERPETUAL CALENDAR features the correct date, day of the week, month, moon phases and leap years automatically. Once set, it displays the date correctly until 2100. Our 1815 ANNUAL CALENDAR, on the other hand, features the month durations correctly from March to January. Although it is shorter, the mechanism treats February as a 30-day month. Therefore, a manual correction must be performed once a year, on the 1st of March.

  • In order to preserve the signature design of the LANGE 1 watch family with its off-centre and non-overlapping displays, the LANGE 1 PERPETUAL CALENDAR features a peripheral month ring. This also provides the framework for all the displays, which include the outsize date and retrograde day-of-week display.

In comparison to our new debut, our ODYSSEUS CHRONOGRAPH, which we launched earlier this year at Watches and Wonders in Geneva, features not only a large display for the date but also the day-of-week. As with its other watch family members, the timepiece’s contemporary appearance is based on openness, lightness and distinguishing design.

A. Lange & Söhne creates outstanding mechanical timepieces that feature challenging complications and follow a clear and classical design line. Innovative engineering skills and traditional craftsmanship at the highest level guarantee a state-of-the-art calibre design with meticulously hand-finished movements and utmost mechanical precision.

Dresden watchmaker Ferdinand Adolph Lange laid the cornerstone of Saxony’s precision watchmaking industry when he established his manufactory in 1845. His vision: setting new standards by crafting unique mechanical timepieces with the highest quality in aesthetics, precision and intricacies. His precious pocket watches remain highly valued among collectors all over the world. After the Second World War, the company was expropriated and the name A. Lange & Söhne nearly vanished. But in 1990, Walter Lange, Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s great-grandson, ventured to start over again – following his credo to “never stand still”.

Today, Lange crafts only a few thousand wristwatches per year – predominantly in gold or platinum. They are endowed exclusively with proprietary movements that are lavishly decorated and twice assembled by hand. With 69 manufacture calibres developed since 1990, A. Lange & Söhne has secured a top-tier position among the world’s finest watch brands. Its greatest successes include brand icons such as the Lange 1, the first regularly produced wristwatch with an outsize date, and the Zeitwerk, with its precisely jumping numerals. Extraordinary complications such as the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater, the Triple Split and the most complicated model so far, the Grand Complication. Introduced in 2013 in a limited edition of six, this piece represents what the manufactory always strives for: to drive the traditional art of watchmaking to ever-new heights. The sporty yet elegant Odysseus, introduced in 2019, marked the start of a new chapter for A. Lange & Söhne.
