Water

A number of our Maisons have factories that are located near rivers and lakes and we are committed to preserving the natural environment around our operations.

Maisons including Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget and IWC have worked hard to preserve the local environment near their factories.

This year we have extended our environmental data collection to include water usage. The scope covered represents about 78% of our full time equivalent employees (FTEs) and we will work to improve data quality and the scope covered over time.

We find that sites that use water-cooling systems represent a significant part of our water consumption.

Case Study: Jaeger-LeCoultre’s focus on water preservation
Jaeger-LeCoultre logo

Jaeger-LeCoultre has been at the forefront of water preservation, having constructed one of the first purification plants in their region, the Joux valley. The purification plant acts to preserve the water table and prevents pollution of the Lac de Joux.

During 2008 Jaeger-LeCoultre will begin the construction of a new building, increasing its site area from
16 000 m2 to 25 000 m2. As part of this expansion it will open a new company restaurant and relocate its workshops. Protecting local water resources has been an integral part of the expansion plan. In addition, the plant will undergo further technological improvements, including the creation of a closed-circuit cooling system for the factory’s machinery. This is part of a wider approach where environmental protection is an integral element of our growth strategy.
