Local citizenship

For our Maisons, building strong relationships with their local communities is integral to the way in which they operate. With heritages typically spanning over a century, it is no wonder that Maisons have cultivated long-standing relationships with communities, which have provided mutual benefits to both parties.

We are proud that many of our products, whilst sold and recognised internationally, remain synonymous with the local region or town where they are produced. An example of local citizenship is described below:

Case Study: Montblanc Cultural Foundation

It is thanks to the creation of writing that culture and art are expressed in a virtually inexhaustible diversity of forms. Due to its origin in the writing culture - the first expression of human cultural life - Montblanc has made a special commitment to cultural advancement. Montblanc promotes many different international activities that each contribute in their own way to the cultural life of society. Established in 1998, the Montblanc Cultural Foundation works closely with the Hamburg Gallery of Contemporary Art. Every two years Montblanc donates contemporary works of art to this institution which represent and reflect the Montblanc philosophy in the widest sense. These works are displayed in the Montblanc Art Gallery for two years before moving permanently to the Gallery of Contemporary Art and have included the following artists: Daniel Richter, Sylvie Fleury, Stephan Huber, Jorge Pardo, and Thomas Schütte. Montblanc has also initiated a corporate volunteering programme with the local authority of Hamburg in 2008. Montblanc has a taken further step this year to strengthen its ties with Hamburg, by launching a corporate volunteering scheme. The scheme has been set up in partnership with the Hamburg Cultural Foundation and provides opportunities for Montblanc employees to volunteer their time and skills to help local cultural institutions such as museums and libraries. Montblanc awards special prizes to those employees who have made an exceptional contribution through volunteering.
