Context

The supply chain for jewellery products is often long and complex. For example, the supply chain for a diamond ring can include for the gold: mining houses, gold refiners, banks and metal trading companies; and for the diamond: mining houses, trading houses, cutters and polishers. Given the complexity of the supply chain, we are working with others to bring about improvements.

Our approach

We work with a number of partner organisations which help us improve our social, economic and environmental performance. In addition to our work with the RJC, we are also involved in the following organisations:

  • Jewelers of America (‘JA’), the trade association for retail jewellers in the USA. Through its Ethical Initiatives Committee, JA is a leader in promoting debate on corporate social responsibility within the industry. Cartier is a Board member of JA and a member of its Ethical Initiatives Committee. www.jewelers.org
  • The French Union of Jewellery, Silverware, Stones and Pearls, which is closely involved in various ethical issues and which promotes the highly skilled know-how of jewellery manufacturing in France. Van Cleef & Arpels serves as a Board member.
  • The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry is a private, professional, and non-profit association, which brings together more than 500 members and represents more than 90% of all Swiss watch manufacturers. www.fhs.ch/en/
